We’re investing in our hospitals and delivering more health workers to ensure everyone can get world-class healthcare when they need it.
Here in our Toohey electorate, Eight Mile Plains will be home to a fantastic new Satellite Hospital which means locals will be able to receive healthcare closer to home.
Construction on the new Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital is currently underway, and will be located at 59-65 Levington Rd, next to the RACQ facility.
It will include a minor injury and illness clinic which will help reduce the need for locals to visit a major hospital emergency department.
The new satellite hospital is one of seven new facilities being built around Queensland as part of a $265 million investment.
It will mean:
- High-quality healthcare closer to home
- Increased healthcare capacity that will reduce pressure on our major hospitals
- Hundreds of secure jobs for nurses, doctors, support staff and allied health staff
- Over 100 local jobs during construction.
The services available will be informed by the needs of the local community. Services being considered at our satellite hospital include:
- Community health services
- Urgent care for minor injury and illness
- Ambulatory and low acuity day therapy services such as renal dialysis
- Chemotherapy
- Complex wound management and outpatient activities.
The hospital location was chosen in response to the needs of our fast-growing community, as well as its convenient location between the QEII and Logan Hospitals.
I’m pleased to say it will focus on a range of new health policy initiatives to improve patient outcomes, improve response times, improve patient flow, and importantly, reduce pressure on emergency rooms.
The new Eight Mile Plains Satellite Hospital was announced by the Palaszczuk Government last year and is a huge win for our community.

How else is the Palaszczuk Government investing in health?
We know that health workforce shortages across Australia have put a huge strain on our health systems.
Which is why we’re delivering a $23.6billion health investment, which is the largest capital investment in health in Queensland’s history.
It means more hospitals and more hospital beds, with our record health budget delivering 2,500 new hospital beds around Queensland.
In our region that includes:
- An additional 249 beds at PA Hospital
- An additional 112 beds at QEII Hospital
- A $350m expansion of Logan Hospital, including another 112 beds.
In 2023 we’ve also had the largest ever intake of junior doctors in Queensland’s history.
800 new junior doctors will be deployed across 20 Queensland health facilities.
A further 200 paramedics and emergency medical dispatchers will also be added to the frontline.
Overall, the Palaszczuk Labor Government is employing an additional 9,475 staff across the health system.
We’re also building a new $750 million world-class QLD Cancer Centre at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital that will enable health professionals to research and deliver the latest cancer treatments to patients with care and support for their families. This project will support more than 2,000 jobs and will be home to 150 beds for cancer patients.
And we have a record $1.6 billion investment in mental health. This means more money and more resources committed to supporting the mental health of Queenslanders.
